PolicyLab researchers discuss high rates of antipsychotic prescribing with Philadelphia Magazine

A new Philadelphia Magazine article discusses the high rates of antipsychotics prescribing for children in Pennsylvania. This past summer, PolicyLab released a report, Psychotropic Medication Use by Pennsylvania Children in Foster Care and Enrolled in Medicaid, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) and funded by Casey Family Programs. The analysis focused on the use of antipsychotics and polypharmacy among children and youth in the Commonwealth, given growing concerns about the safety and efficacy of psychotropic medications among these populations. This article discusses these research findings with PolicyLab's Dr. David Rubin, Meredith Matone, and Kathleen Noonan, and examines the issues surrounding antipsychotic use among children in Pennsylvania.
